Everyone knows they should run Windows Updates regularly – right?
Well, once in a while, Windows Updates just STOP working – or you get an update that just will not apply.
Our first recommendation is to ensure that you choose the “MANUAL” update method – and try to install that one update BY ITSELF – ie, as the only update that you’re trying to install.
If that fails – you can search your favorite search engine for the update that is failing – use the individual Knowledgebase IS (KB999999) – you may find a quick and easy fix – but if you don’t…

For home users, NO-CHARGE support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY (1-866-727-2338) in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update’s KB number (e.g., KB999999).
If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the above number and ask to be transferred to the “Consumer IE queue” (which is 47830).
